Two hundred and fifty hectares of fennel cultivation.

The reality of Azienda Agricola Girardi Domenico e Figli, in Pisticci, in the province of Matera is truly unique.

The farm, which has been in the horticultural industry for forty years, chose to specialise in this crop, due to which, it has now reached an unparalleled experience.

Fennel is transplanted in the Metaponto area between September and December, a fairly short time considering that this is the most unstable time of the year weatherwise.

“Until 3 years ago – states Domenico Girardi – we planted all seedlings manually, with a fair amount of difficulty in terms of time and labour availability.

After various evaluations, we decided to buy a Checchi & Magli two-row Unitrium transplanter and our work has definitely changed since then”.

“Today, continues Domenico, we are able to transplant fennel much more quickly, saving at least 30% on labour and markedly reducing risks due to bad weather”.

The 2-row Unitrium has a daily productivity of approximately 70 thousand transplanted seedlings per hectare.

“It is a quick and simple to use machine, Domenico concludes, the only thing you have to do is prepare the soil well before transplanting.

With well-prepared soil, you can work quickly, achieving excellent results”.
